Arthad was one of Barahir’s twelve remaining men on Dorthonion. He belonged to the nine household retainers of Barahir whose names the Noldor long kept in song, named with Radhruin, Dairuin, Dagnir, Ragnor, Gildor, Gorlim, Urthel and Hathaldir. After their homes were ruined they lived as hunted outlaws on the high waste above the woods, among pools and stony moors, for about two years after the Dagor Bragollach.
