Coverage
Most reference sites claim completeness. This one measures it — against published indexes of every named character, and against its own review process. The numbers below are generated at build time and are not rounded in our favour.
- 1,097register entries
- 1,097released for the public site
- 468article texts (EN+DE)
- 763without a date
What is published
An entry only becomes public once a human has reviewed it. Until then it exists in the register but is not served — so the two columns differ, and that gap is the honest part. The right-hand column counts actual sign-offs, not what this particular build happens to display.

Full articles, and the language gap
Most entries are structured data sheets. A smaller number carry a full article body. English is the primary language and runs ahead; we would rather show a missing German page than a machine-translated one.
- 234 articles with English prose
- 234 articles with German prose
- 234 of them reviewed and public
Measured against the named canon
These are external indexes we did not compile ourselves — which is what makes them a fair yardstick. The large denominator counts every name that appears anywhere in the legendarium, including figures mentioned exactly once.
Where the collection is thin
This is a distribution, not a coverage figure: nobody knows how many figures each age holds, so there is no denominator. It does show where we have depth — and the last row is the most interesting one, because it mixes unrecorded dates with cases where Tolkien himself gives none.

What these numbers do not say
- Coverage is not quality. A data sheet counts the same as a long biography here.
- The percentages will fall as we add checklists from the book indexes — a wider net finds more gaps, and we would rather report that than hide it.
- Real-world material (events, publication history) is tracked separately and is not counted above.
