Borlach was a son of Bor, beside Borlad and Borthand. Maedhros, aware how weak the Noldor and the Edain stood against Angband’s endless strength, bound friendship with the chief leaders of the newly arrived Men, Bor and Ulfang. Borlach took service with Maedhros and Maglor, kept faith with his brothers, and so thwarted what Morgoth had expected of them. Ulfang’s sons under Caranthir broke their word.
