Borlas of Pen-arduin, younger son of Beregond—first Captain of Prince Faramir’s Guard after they went to Emyn Arnen—lived in Gondor a hundred and five years after the Dark Tower fell. He still remembered the War of the Ring from childhood. With his son Berelach serving in the Ships near Pelargir, loneliness weighed on him. Saelon, often his visitor, asked him to join a black-clad night expedition. What met him at home thereafter remains untold.
