Bruithwir, father of Fëanor, was slain by Melko himself at the threshold of the Noldoli dwellings. Far away on Taniquetil joy still held, so the guards’ cries went unheard. Bruithwir had held a stone house; Melko broke in, took the Silmarils kept in an ivory box, plundered the gem hoard, and fled with his band on stolen black horses of Oromë.
