In briefanswer capsule

Háma was Théoden’s Doorward in Edoras. He made guests lay down arms before entering and barred the doors with drawn sword when they refused. He held that the house was Théoden’s, not Aragorn’s. After Gandalf surrendered Glamdring, Háma still doubted the ash staff, then trusted his judgment that the visitors were worthy and admitted them. Wormtongue later named him a fool who had betrayed them.
