King of the Eagles. After Fingolfin’s fall before Morgoth, Thorondor carried the report to Gondolin and far Hithlum. As Morgoth prepared to fling the High King’s corpse to the wolves, Thorondor left his nesting place in the Crissaegrim, scarred Morgoth’s face, and carried the body off in his talons beyond the Orcs’ reach. He placed it on a mountain overlooking Gondolin’s concealed valley, where Turgon raised a cairn over his father.
