The Horn of Gondor is the great heirloom horn of the House of the Stewards, made from the horn of a wild ox of the Vale of Rhûn by Vorondil, father of the first Ruling Steward Mardil. By old tradition, its call would never go unanswered if blown within the borders of Gondor. Boromir, son of Denethor II, carried it as his birthright and sounded it loudly on leaving Rivendell with the Fellowship of the Ring. He wound it again at Amon Hen in his last fight against Orcs, and it was later found broken in two beside his body.
