Ar-Adûnakhôr, also Tar-Herunúmen, was Númenor's twentieth king. Born in Second Age 2709, he reigned sixty-three years and died in 2962. He first assumed an Adûnaic throne-title, while a Quenya name was still written from fear. The Faithful rejected “Lord of the West” as sacrilege, a style meant for the Valar, especially Manwë. Public teaching of Elven speech stopped; only they preserved it in secret.

Where the sources disagree
Whether Ar-Adûnakhôr was the nineteenth or the twentieth ruler of Númenor.
- The nineteenth king took the sceptre in the name of Adûnakhôr. Akallabêth
- The twentieth King took his royal name in Númenórean form, calling himself Ar-Adûnakhôr. Appendix A, I(i), Númenor
Not an error to be corrected but a difference between the published Appendix and the posthumously edited Akallabêth. Both count the same man; they count the line differently.
