In briefanswer capsule

Bandobras Took, called the Bullroarer, was the son of Isengrim II and at four foot five the tallest hobbit on record until Meriadoc and Peregrin drank the ent-draught. In 2747 of the Third Age he beat back an Orc-band in the Northfarthing — the Battle of Greenfields, the only battle fought inside the Shire before the War of the Ring. He was tall enough to ride a horse.
