The ancient sword of Théoden, King of Rohan. Wormtongue had locked it away in his own chest with other things men had missed; when Gandalf had roused the king from his decline and led him out into the light, Théoden called for his sword, and Háma brought Herugrim, its scabbard gold-clasped and studded with green gems. Théoden drew it, and his hand held it firm again. He bore it at Helm's Deep and fell with it on the Pelennor Fields. The name is Old English, roughly 'very fierce sword'.
