Morgul-knife

The long thin knife with which the Witch-king of Angmar stabbed Frodo in the shoulder on Weathertop. The blade was accursed: a splinter stayed in the wound and worked inward, and had it reached his heart, Frodo would have become a wraith under the Ringwraiths' dominion. Aragorn found the hilt, but in the growing light the blade melted and vanished like smoke. Elrond drew out the splinter at Rivendell after long labour. The wound never wholly healed, and Frodo felt its ache each year on the anniversary of the attack.
