In briefanswer capsule

Weathertop, in Sindarin Amon Sûl, is the southernmost and highest of the Weather Hills in Eriador, crowned by the ruins of a watch-tower that once guarded one of the three palantíri kept in the North. Long abandoned after the tower was thrown down in the wars with Angmar, the hill later served as a waypoint on the Road to Rivendell. There, in October of TA 3018, the Nazgûl overtook Frodo and his companions, and the Witch-king wounded Frodo with a Morgul-blade.
