In briefanswer capsule

Dorthonion is a highland south of Ard-galen, some sixty leagues from west to east, bearing pine woods chiefly north and west. From the plain it climbs to harsh high ground with tarns under bare tors above Ered Wethrin’s peaks; south toward Doriath it ends in sudden cliffs. Angrod and Aegnor, Finarfin’s sons and Finrod’s vassals, held the northern slopes over Ard-galen with few folk on barren soil. Later also called Taur-nu-Fuin.
