Mount Gundabad

Gundabad is a mountain at the northern end of the Misty Mountains, and the same place holds two opposite meanings. The Hobbit tells of the great mountain Gundabad of the North, where the goblins had their capital and where a vast host assembled before the Battle of Five Armies. Later writing gives the older reason why that mattered: Gundabad was the awakening-place of the ancestor of the Longbeards and therefore revered by the Dwarves, its name Khuzdul in origin, and in the early ages the kindreds held assemblies of delegates there. That the Orcs of Sauron held it through the Third Age stands high among the grounds for the deep enmity the Dwarves bore them. In the War of the Dwarves and Orcs, Durin's Folk sacked the Orc-strongholds one by one from Gundabad to the Gladden.
