The Iron Hills in Rhovanion, east of Erebor, became a seat of Durin’s Folk when Grór son of Dáin led many there after the Grey Mountains were left. Ore was traded with Erebor, and Northmen nearby grew strong. At Azanulbizar the late arrival of Náin’s force from that land broke the Orcs. Dáin Ironfoot then led his people home. Later those Dwarves alone could bar eastern moves northward past the Dragon’s waste; from there Dáin aided Erebor in Dale and took the crown under the Mountain.
