Tol Eressëa, the Lonely Isle, is a great island in the Bay of Eldamar off the coast of Aman, drawn there from the waters of the Great Sea by the Vala Ulmo to ferry the Eldar toward the Undying Lands. The Teleri dwelt upon it longest before many of them settled at Alqualondë on the neighbouring shore, and it remained afterward a home for Elves. In later ages ships departing the Grey Havens carried Elves, and at the end of the Third Age the Ring-bearers, along the Straight Road to its havens.
