A people of Men unlike all others: short and broad, deep-eyed, wary as beasts and unmatched in woodcraft. In the Third Age a remnant still haunted Drúadan Forest in Anórien, where their headman Ghân-buri-Ghân guided the Rohirrim past the enemy to Minas Tirith. The Púkel-men, the squat stone figures on the road up to Dunharrow, are images of their forebears. Tolkien's later writings place them already in Beleriand in the First Age, living among the Folk of Haleth and hated by the Orcs, who called them Oghor-hai.
