The Halifirien is the last and highest of the seven beacons, standing on the border of Rohan above the Firien Wood. Its name is Rohirric for holy mountain; in Sindarin it was Amon Anwar, the Hill of Awe. Isildur set the tomb of Elendil on its summit, and while the tomb lay there no beacon was permitted on the hill. Cirion, the twelfth Ruling Steward, took the Oath of Eorl beside the mound and afterwards removed the casket to Minas Tirith; only then did the hill become a beacon-site.
