Nardol

Nardol is the third of the seven beacons of Gondor and stands at the outer end of a high ridge above the Stonewain Valley. Its name means Fire-hilltop and records its task: the narrow top of Eilenach had no room for a large fire, so the heavy blaze of the chain was laid on Nardol instead. Masons and quarrymen coming up the valley had stripped the ridge of the woods that once covered it, and the men posted at the beacon kept watch over their workings as well. Firewood was stored there in quantity, and on a cloudless night the kindled flame reached the westernmost beacon of the line, roughly a hundred and twenty miles away.
