Eregion, known to Men as Hollin, was a realm of the Noldor founded around SA 750 at the western feet of the Misty Mountains, near the gates of Khazad-dûm. Its jewel-smiths under Celebrimbor kept a rare friendship with Durin's folk, and the Rings of Power were forged there. Sauron laid the realm waste in SA 1697; by the time of the War of the Ring only holly trees and tumbled stones remained.
