Minas Morgul is a fortress in the western vale of the Ephel Dúath, built by Isildur as Minas Ithil, the Tower of the Rising Moon, to guard Gondor's eastern border. After the Nazgûl seized it in the Third Age, it became their dread stronghold under the Witch-king, its pale light a byword for horror. From its gate the Morgul-host later marches on Gondor, and the road beyond climbs toward the pass of Cirith Ungol.
